ABOUT US
Meet Our Founder
Happy Mandarin was founded by Yawen Lu in 2024, a passionate advocate for early childhood bilingual education. Yawen holds bachelor’s degrees in Finance and Accounting from the University of Carlos III in Spain and a master’s degree in International Accounting and Management from the University of Windsor in Canada. Fluent in Mandarin, English, and Spanish, Yawen understands firsthand the effort required to learn a language as an adult. Inspired by this experience and her journey raising two young daughters in Katy, Texas (77494), Yawen is committed to creating an environment where children can naturally and effortlessly achieve bilingualism—all while having fun. Yawen believes that children learn languages best when their educational experiences are tied to joy and positive memories. This philosophy drives the foundation of Happy Mandarin’s immersive classroom, where high standards for teachers and curriculum meet interactive, entertaining, and hands-on learning tailored to young minds. At Happy Mandarin, we aim to make bilingualism a natural part of every child’s journey, fostering a love for languages and a lifetime of possibilities.

Benefits of Bilingualism
Research indicates that learning a second language can significantly enhance a child's problem-solving skills. For children growing up in the U.S., learning Mandarin in addition to English opens up opportunities to communicate with 13% more of the world's population, broadening their global reach and understanding. Additionally, Chinese American children who learn Mandarin often experience a stronger sense of cultural identity and confidence, fostering pride in their heritage and the ability to navigate diverse environments with ease.

You might wonder, in an era dominated by AI, why bilingualism is still important or why we should invest time in learning another language. While it’s true that AI is transforming the landscape, including the translation industry, the value of native-level fluency has never been more crucial. In the near future, basic and business translations will be easily handled by machines in real-time. However, what AI cannot replicate is the cultural depth and human connection inherent in native language interactions. The ability to communicate and connect authentically with another native speaker is a uniquely human skill that machines cannot replace. This advantage can only be realized when your child reaches true native fluency in a second language, empowering them to build meaningful relationships and thrive in diverse environments.
